7 Prayers For The Man You Married - Jemima Varughese

Did you know that a wife’s prayers for her husband are so powerful that through her world changing lips, a mighty man of God can rise?

You may not think that right now depending on where your husband is at, but over the years I have taught wives this simple prayer that has had amazing results... and if God can do it for them He can certainly do it for you! I know that even in my own life after having prayed this over my husband Mark, I have seen him break to new levels, increase in gifting and further grow into the calling that God has placed on his life.

Here’s the truth: the enemy knows how powerful our prayers are, so he does everything he can to distract us. Instead of praying, we nag. Instead of declaring, we start complaining. Instead of encouraging, we criticise - and the man of God, the gift God gave us, slowly decreases and even loses his authority in some cases. Sometimes they even start to lose love for us.

However, if we stop stabbing him with the powerful sword God gave us, and start using that sword to protect, build up and support our mighty men of God, you will in no time see a shift that your whole family will be blessed from.

Try this simple prayer for a few weeks and let me know if you see a change…

When he is asleep, just gently lay your hand on the part of the body you are praying for. Don’t let him know you are doing this! Don’t brag, manipulate or victimise yourself over this prayer. Just a simple, quiet humble prayer is all God needs from you.

  1. Lay hands on his mind and pray: “Lord I anoint my husbands mind today. Let his thoughts be YOUR thoughts, let his ways be YOUR ways. Let him take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ and let distraction be far from him.”

  2. Lay hands on his eyes and pray: “Lord anoint his eyes to see what you see today. Let him see the supernatural, let him see beyond the natural. Keep his eyes from temptation and let him see people the way you see them.”

  3. Lay hands on his ears and pray: “Lord I anoint these ears to only hear the voice of the Holy Spirit. Drown out the enemy’s voice, the fear of man and may your voice be the loudest in his ears. Let the Holy Spirit whisper wisdom that only comes from heaven that will lead him into making the right decisions.”

  4. Lay hands on his lips and pray: “Lord I anoint these lips to speak your words.  Let his words carry great, Godly authority. May his language today bring life not death, peace not strife, strength not fear.”

  5. Lay hands on his hands and pray: “Lord I anoint these hands to carry your presence. Let everyone that shakes these hands feel the presence - Your presence God, the love of You Father, the healing touch of You God. May it flow through these hands and on to all who comes into contact with him.”

  6. Lay hands on his heart and pray: “Lord I anoint his heart to always be soft towards you and the things you want him to carry. Give him discernment to know when to shut a door and when to open a door.”

  7. Land hands on his feet and pray: “Lord I anoint these feet to walk in your favour today. Let him be lead, directed in your path. Give him favour wherever his footsteps go and keep him away from the wrong places, open up the doors to the right places.”

I once had a wife who came to me distraught, as her husband was not a Christian and had confessed he had been seeing prostitutes. She asked me what to do, and whether she should leave him. I shared this prayer with her and said try this for a month and see if you see any change. Within two months her husband had an encounter with God and gave his life to Christ. They now serve together as part of our core team at Kingdomcity.

Another wife was complaining that her husband was not ‘on fire’ for God. She started praying this for a few weeks and came home one day to find her husband cleaning out their house from the ungodly things that he felt God was highlighting to him. She never had to say a word to him, she just prayed this prayer every night.

Proverbs 31:27 (NIV) says “She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.”

Let’s watch over our husband’s affairs spiritually by getting them ready everyday to face the world, so that no weapon formed against them can prosper. Your prayers are a shield, your words bring life, and your declaration will move mountains in him. Let’s use the sword God gave us to empower our husbands!
