Focus on the Way Maker not the Way - Naean Moji

Let’s talk about a dawning word - purpose! This is something that often gets us into a cycle of worry and confusion. It always has us asking WHAT IS MY PURPOSE?

In High School I thought about this a lot, and honestly I think what I wanted for my future changed weekly. One week I would say I want to be a track runner, a week later a paramedic, the next week a teacher - I think you get the picture. I wish I knew then what I know now, about going to God first! Our life can be one big puzzle, and often we forget the creator of the puzzle as we try to figure out how to put it together.

One of my absolute favourite scriptures is Psalms‬ ‭37:4-5‬ ‭(TPT‬‬), “Make God the utmost delight and pleasure of your life, and he will provide for you what you desire the most. Give God the right to direct your life, and as you trust him along the way you’ll find he pulled it off perfectly!”

When it comes to purpose, goals, dreams, careers or anything surrounding the future this is where we should start, by making God the utmost delight and pleasure of our lives, allowing him to direct every step. The truth is that we have many desires and dreams, and they are actually placed in us by God Himself. God isn’t a mean God; He places desires in us for a reason, and He wants to see those desires come to pass, but He needs to be the one to direct them.

During my gap year after High School, Jesus spoke very clearly to me, I had such a passion and love for ministry, I felt called to run after that. I even got accepted into 4 Bible colleges! However, I made the mistake of taking my eyes off of the way maker, the one who was holding the keys to my purpose and my destiny, so I started focusing on myself. The sad part is because I took my eyes off Jesus, I wasted 6 years running in the wrong direction. I didn’t go to Bible college, I went to University and changed my major every semester. After two years I left uni and worked all different jobs. I was trying to figure out what my future would be, what I loved and what I could see myself doing forever. I spent so much time trying to figure it out and I never even asked Jesus. I would decide what was next, and when I didn’t feel fulfilled I would drop it and move to the next thing. I always put Jesus in the mix after I had made the decision instead of before. For 6 years I involved Jesus in MY plans instead of actually walking in HIS plans for me. Which is ironic really, because after all He knows exactly where I need to go! I spent 6 years trying to figure something out that God already had the answers to.

It says in Jeremiah‬ ‭29:11-13‬ (‭NIV‬) “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

FOR I KNOW - God has plans for our life!

You're probably wondering what happened after those 6 years. Well I fixed my eyes on Jesus and started getting to know Him! I stopped trying to make everything work for me, so I could find His purpose for me. I removed fear. I fixed my eyes on the way maker and not on the path.

When I started looking to God, I started walking in the right direction. I did Kingdomcity Leadership Academy in 2018 and am now in ministry, and all it took was focusing on God.

What blows my mind is that the desires, goals and dreams - all the things that I have in my heart are so important to God, from the very big things like career and family, to the smaller things like what you do for fun or even what you eat for breakfast. God cares about it all! The whole time He knew the direction I needed to walk in to unlock everything He had for me. I just needed to have my eyes fixed on the way maker.

SO yes! Write down Goals, have big dreams, work on a career path but remember

“It is the Lord who directs your life, for each step you take is ordained by God to bring you closer to your destiny. So much of your life, then, remains a mystery!”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭20:24‬ ‭TPT‬‬

‭‭It’s not always about knowing the direction or the next step, but more about knowing and trusting the guide to direct your life!
