The Power Of A Praying Mother - Amy Lee

It took me three days to start writing this, I kept feeling like I was completely unqualified to write about being a praying Mother. If I am honest with you, I feel like I missed the mark a lot with praying for my children. I pray for protection over them most days but not always for their future, their giftings, their spouses like I hear other Mums talk about. But, with all the prayers that I haven’t prayed, God has been completely faithful; bringing my eldest daughter back to Him, keeping my teenage Son on a narrow path, and fanning into flames gifts in my youngest daughter. How good is our God!

Here are a few ways I pray for my children and some testimonies of God’s goodness.

First and foremost, we need to seek God for a promise for our children’s lives. Once you have your promise declare it over your child because there is power in declaration. Discovering God’s promises can look different for each child, as was in my case. One child’s promise was from a vision and a scripture to confirm, another was a prophetic word from a visiting Pastor and for my Son, I had to search the scriptures for months until the Spirit of God breathed upon his promise.

Why is it so important to have this promise and to declare it, you ask? First, there is power in speaking out God’s word. God spoke the world into existence and He promises us in Isaiah 55:11 that His word will produce fruit when sent out.

Second, there is life in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21).

Third, you are going to need a promise when your child isn’t behaving the way they should. When my children’s lives don’t reflect the promise and I am frustrated, angry or upset I declare the truth, the promise God gave me, I speak life over them. Especially when I don’t see the promise, I declare it.

One of the areas I love praying for and that is really close to my heart is backslidden children. My eldest daughter was away from the Lord for around four years, from 16-20 and it broke my heart to see her hurting and lonely. I would pray for her salvation regularly but nothing seemed to happen, there was no breakthrough for years. I would pray but it would look like she was moving further away from God, not closer. I started seeking how to pray for the lost, how to have effective prayer in this area. I came across a book written by Dutch Sheets who had a powerful strategy of how to pray for the unsaved. I also spoke many times to our Pastors at Kingdomcity about praying for salvations and they gave great insight into this area. Once I started praying strategically, it was only around 8 months before my daughter opened her heart and accepted Jesus as her Lord and Saviour.

I would pray this prayer over her life:

Lord please tear the veil off of her eyes.

Holy Spirit hover over the darkness in her life.

I cast down anything that would exalt itself against the name of Jesus in her life.

Lord remove any ungodly people from her world.

Let her feel the weight of her sin.

God please bring in Godly people to her life that would draw her near to you.

I would like to say that I prayed this prayer daily but it was more like weekly. But before I knew it, I saw things begin to shift in her life. The person that had the most influence in her life was no longer around. She was starting to allow me to speak about God again (without rolling her eyes). Then, she started to let me pray for her. She took her bible home with her that she had left behind when she moved out of home. One day, God sent a beautiful young lady from Kingdomcity to reach out to her and invite her to church. She finally came to church and raised her hand in the altar call, giving her heart back to her heavenly Father.

God is always faithful even if we feel like we miss the mark. Even when I feel I haven’t prayed enough or I haven’t parented the way I should, God is always there showing me love and grace. I thank God every day that God blessed me with my three beautiful children and that I get the privilege and honour of being their Mum.

I pray that this blesses you!
