What Are Our Children Inheriting - Juni Leong
In Matthew 3:2 the verse says "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near".
To repent is to have a change of direction in our thinking.
In this context no condemnation was meant but instead an urging that we change the way we think about the kingdom. Majority of the time, we think that the Kingdom of God is something physical. Something that can be seen by the natural eye and will only come in the near future when Jesus returns.
That too is true but God intended design for us is to live out the kingdom of God here on earth. The disciples themselves thought that the Kingdom was just a visible Kingdom but Jesus states that the Kingdom that He was referring to was not visible.
“Now when He was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, He answered them and said, “The kingdom of God does not come with observation; nor will they say, ‘See here!’ or ‘See there!’ For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you”. Luke 17:20-21
We need to change our way of thinking to the truth that God’s kingdom abides within us.
It is not something distant but it is real and tangible and living and it is near! It is within you. Now that we have an understanding of this, it is important to ask ourselves and examine ourselves if we are truly living out our lives like the Kingdom of God is within us? It is important to look inward, to self-reflect at every stage of life. My question to you today is; are we teaching our kids to walk in the ways of the lord? Or are we raising them up in environments of our own fears, anxiety and orphan mindset? May I suggest to you that our children will either inherit God’s promises or our fears.
Are we investing into our youth? Are we still teaching them to honour their parents, to steward all that they have been blessed with and to have self-control over what they see in the media out there. As we even begin to enter the workforce, are we fighting for the things of God like how we fight for promotions in the workplace? As parents, how are we teaching the generations after us? Are we just leaving the teaching to the internet? What are we teaching about maintaining healthy boundaries and sexuality? We need to wake up from our slumber and begin to partner with God to bring the King’s rule into our world.
The kingdom of God is within you, you are capable and more than enough. Let us live out of that identity and let us leave a beautiful inheritance for our children.
