Classic French Toast with Maple Cinnamon Butter - Renuka George

TOAST

INGREDIENTS

  • 6 thick slices bread

  • 3 eggs

  • 1 cup milk

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

  • salt to taste

DIRECTIONS

  1. Beat together egg, milk, salt, desired spices and vanilla.

  2. Heat a lightly oiled flat pan or grill pan over a medium-high heat.

  3. Dunk each slice of bread in egg mixture, soaking both sides for a good few seconds. place dripping slices on hot pan and cook on both sides until golden.

  4. Serve hot with maple cinnamon butter.

MAPLE CINNAMON BUTTER

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup butter, softened

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

  • 1/4 cup maple syrup (if you skip this, you'll end up with sweet cinnamon butter which is just as delicious) 

  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon spice powder

DIRECTIONS

  1. In an electric mixing bowl, use the whisk attachment (alternatively, a handheld electric whisk can be used) mix together butter, brown sugar, maple syrup and cinnamon until well blended, smooth and creamy, this takes about 4-5 minutes.

  2. Chill in the refrigerator, for about 30 minutes.

  3. Form into a roll using waxed paper and store wrapped.

  4. Once it's solid again, you can slice into discs and pop onto warm french toast so it melts all over.
